  • Introduction

    The Centre for Health and Disability Assessments conducts health and disability assessments on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions. Working from a network of 11 Assessment Services Centres and 150 Assessment Centres, assessments are conducted in the main areas of Employment and Support Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Veterans UK and Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit. Our practitioner group includes employed nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and doctors.

    Job Summary

    Provides contact and engagement across all areas of performance for a team of 8-10 allocated practitioners. Undertakes audit of clinical assessments and provides timely and constructive feedback. Conducts assessments as a Registered Nurse, Physiotherapist or Medical Practitioner.

    Essential Job Duties

    • Conduct assessments and file work maintaining agreed productivity and quality standards.
    • Provide contact and engagement across all areas of performance for a team of 8-10 allocated practitioners
    • To identify and escalate appropriate people issues to the Clinical Manager and Clical Team Manger as appropriate.
    • Undertake regular audits and provide timely and constructive feedback ensuring quality standards are continuously achieved.
    • Ensure induction days follow appropriate programme including Keeping Safe at Work training when launched.
    • Agree probationary objectives and ensure process is followed and documentation is complete.
      dentify and organise coaching and mentoring as required either to achieve “approval” as a Disability
    • Analyst for new entrants or focussing on continuous development for existing practitioners.
    • Explain, monitor and manage the expected learning curve using Pathways programme, apply the programme appropriately.
    • Responsible for effectively and pro-actively supporting employees who are absent from work due to sickness, and put in place a framework of support to ideally prevent, or at least minimise, any future or ongoing absence, drawing on support from HR and Occupational Health.
    • Monitor performance of the individual HCP and team in relation to progress through the learning curve, ongoing productivity and quality of medical outputs. Manage underperformance in line with the Performance Excellence Policy & Procedure’.
    • Ensure cascade of communications and information across the team, building team cohesion
    • Manage the appraisal cycle, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all necessary processes and documentation, including objective setting, mid year review and appraisal and Personal Development Plans.
    • Identify potential retention issues and escalate appropriately .

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Registration and continuous professional development should be maintained for self and team in accordance with the requirements of Post Registration and Practice (PREP) standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the CME requirement for revalidation with the General Medical Council (GMC) and Health Professions Council (HPC).
    • Ensure that professional practice standards and “best practice” are maintained in all areas of work.
      Able to work unsupervised and use own initiative however know limitations and ask for support where necessary.
    • Work well as part of a multidisciplinary team and build positive working relationships with both medical colleagues and administrative support staff.
    • Have highly developed oral and written communication skills and be able to negotiate successfully and respond to rapidly changing work environment.
    • Demonstrate sufficient understanding of the Medical MIS to interrogate the MIS and identify exceptions.
    • HCP (Doctor, Nurse or Physiotherapist) with a minimum of three years post registration experience .
    • Experience of change management and the ability to influence and negotiate successfully with a range of people.
